Get Healthy Graduate
"My Get Healthy appointments are like a call from my conscience, asking me what I have been doing and suggesting ways for me to improve my health."
Before he joined the Get Healthy Service, Michael knew that surrounding himself with unhealthy food all the time was drowning out what his conscience was telling him. Temptation sat on the kitchen counter, in the fridge or at the local takeaway. High-calorie, high-fat foods, pies, packets of chips and other junk foods were, quite literally, weighing on him.
Today, things have changed. While thinking about life insurance, Michael was also thinking about his health and how to improve it. Spotting a Get Healthy post on Facebook led to his decision to join the Get Healthy Service and start his journey to a healthier lifestyle.
Michael’s initial discussion with the Get Healthy Service covered questions about his health, including his activity levels, smoking status, alcohol consumption and eating habits. The regular phone calls and the personalised aspect of Get Healthy made it easier to stay focused, and the advice he’s received has helped change his eating habits for the better.
“Now, I focus on what I’m putting in my mouth and when, and the type of foods. Replacing poor food choices with healthy options.’’
Michael was recently married, and as with many people, an upcoming wedding can be a great incentive to lose some weight and improve both your fitness and general health.
“It was really good to get my weight down and achieve that goal. I mean, everyone wants to look good in their wedding photos.”
Of course, the flipside is - a wedding is also a great excuse to let loose a little and overindulge. Fortunately for Michael, that’s where his Get Healthy goal setting, and regular contact with his Get Healthy coach really came into play.
“Right now I’m in a reset. I got through the wedding and the big celebration, and now I’m through that honeymoon period I’m resetting my goals. I had a phone call last week, and that regular contact really helps to get you back on track.”
For Michael, goal-setting and regular calls are really important.
“You can reset at any time during those regular contacts, because no one is perfect – you do stray - everyone goes off track now and then.”
Michael believes that being healthy means being able to be active and enjoy life more. Today, he remains focused on keeping his weight under control, being active and keeping his conscience happy by enjoying a better, healthier diet.
