Two young children can turn a house into a very, very busy home. Fortunately, after focusing on her health, their mother Fadzai has plenty of energy to keep up with her kids.

It wasn’t always that way. Before she joined the Get Healthy Service, Fadzai’s eating choices were having a serious impact on her energy levels.

“When you’re above a healthy weight you feel tired easily, particularly when your kids are trying to run around with you. I couldn’t even play properly with them because I would get too tired.”

Fadzai’s journey to a healthier lifestyle began after a follow-up visit with nurse practitioner Susan, after the birth of Fadzai’s second child. Susan recommended the free Get Healthy Service.

Before registering with Get Healthy, Fadzai was relying on easy options like takeaways. Regular calls with her Get Healthy coach gave her a new perspective on her health and a range of practical ways to improve her eating habits.

Fadzai kept a diary of what she ate and each week they would discuss alternatives, talk about different food groups and look at effective ways to improve her eating. Simple advice such as swapping out snacks like chips for healthier options such as cucumber and hummus, and eating breakfast before heading to the supermarket to shop, has led to less takeaways and less impulse buying.

“Before, I’d skip breakfast then go to the shops and end up eating something unhealthy.

Now, I make sure to eat something before I go to the shops, so when I get there I’m not even looking at the food – I’m happy.”

These easy shifts in behaviour have made a huge difference in Fadzai’s health, and the advice she was given proved easy to understand and to follow. Since registering with Get Healthy, Fadzai has lost weight and gained a better understanding of her health and how to maintain it.

“Being healthy means being in a good weight range. Now, I’m much more active – I have more energy and I’m really eating so much better. I can play with my kids without getting tired.”

Fadzai’s experience with Get Healthy has helped improve her eating choices and given her the tools she needs to stay on track. And with two young children to keep up with, she’s determined to eat better and stay healthier in the long run.
