Wellbeing SA’s contractual agreement for the Get Healthy Service ended 28 June 2023. As a result, the Better Health Coaching Service replaced the Get Healthy Service from 3 July 2023.
Wellbeing SA commenced a competitive tender process late 2022 to establish a new state-wide health coaching service to replace the Get Healthy Service in South Australia.
The tender process resulted in the selection of the Better Health Coaching Service, delivered by the Better Health Company which has substantial experience in implementing large scale, state-wide evidence based healthy lifestyle programs and services.
Similar to the Get Healthy Service, the Better Health Coaching Service is a free, confidential, telephone-based program designed to help South Australians be active, eat well and reduce the risk of chronic disease.
The program links participants with a qualified health professional and provides up to 10 free coaching calls over six months.
The Better Health Coaching Service is free to eligible South Australians aged between 18 and 74 years, with a BMI equal to or more than 27 and seeking support to build and maintain healthy lifestyle habits.
While the Better Health Coaching Service will not have a specific pregnancy module, the health coaches will be able to provide modified advice to eligible South Australians who are pregnant.
To find out if you’re eligible, talk to your GP of health professional about options that are best for you.
South Australians who have previously completed four or more coaching calls with either the Get Healthy or Better Health Coaching Service are not eligible to re-enrol into the Better Health Coaching Service for two years from the date of their last coaching session.
This process has been introduced as there are limited placements in this service and interest is expected to be high. People who have completed four or more coaching calls have already developed skills and understandings to assist them in achieving their health goals whereas new participants need to be given similar opportunities.
People who have completed less than four Get Healthy or Better Health coaching calls may be eligible to participate in the Better Health Coaching Service, if they also meet the current eligibility criteria.
If you’re ineligible to participate in the Better Health Coaching Service, talk to your GP or health professional about options that are best for you. For tips on how to build healthy habits into your day, visit the Wellbeing SA website:
